    Nippon Express develops "Black Sea Route Service" for shortest route to Russian interior

    Nippon Express Co., Ltd. (Masanori Kawai, President) has developed a new "Black Sea Route Service" to Russia whereby goods will be transported to southern Russia via the Black Sea. The service is expected to go into full-scale operation this fiscal year.

    Nippon Express has thus far provided a broad range of ocean, air, and rail transport services to inland Russia via its St. Petersburg route, its Kotka (Finland) route, its Vladivostok route utilizing the Trans-Siberian Railway (TSR) and consolidated air cargo transport to Moscow Airport.

    The Black Sea Route Service will allow the Company to offload cargo at Russia's Novosibirsk Port situated on the northeastern shore of the Black Sea and transport it by truck to Moscow, Lipetsk (and its special economic zone), Kaluga, and cities in the Russian south, reducing lead time by up to five days compared to other transport routes.

    This will enable Nippon Express to avoid the risks of delayed port entry at St. Petersburg due to congestion or midwinter ice-breaking operations and of border customs clearance controls during transit at Kotka Port, and to meet the expansion of transport demand as Russia's economy develops.

    Centered on the growing Turkish economy, the Black Sea region will only take on increasing importance as a strategic crossroads connecting Europe, the Middle East, Russia and Asia. In addition to developing this Black Sea Route Service, Nippon Express is moving ahead with preparations to establish a local subsididiary in Turkey, where a representative office is already in place, in order to provide high-quality services to a region expected to serve as both an export base for Japanese and European/American firms and a growth market in its own rights.
